Richard Challoner School

"Richard Challoner

Nearest train station: Malden Manor

is a thriving, non-selective heavily oversubscribed Roman Catholic School for boys aged 11-18. It is highly regarded in the local community and is a well disciplined and caring school with a distinctive Christian ethos."

The school has approximately 750 pupils on roll (150 approximately in the 6th form). Each year, the school admits 120 pupils in Year 7. These pupils are from committed Catholic and other Christian families who have also indicated that Richard Challoner is their first choice school.

The school has excellent facilities with a new seven classroom block opened in October 2001 and a new Food Technology centre currently under construction. The school has also secured a £5.4 million capital building project with building due to start in summer 2005. New facilities include a sports hall, music and arts centre, drama studio and many new classrooms. The school has the latest ICT facilities with a computer / pupil ratio of five pupils to every one computer. All computers are networked and have access to the Internet. The school is also a DFES designated Specialist Technology College.

Examination results are impressive. The school achieved the highest scores of all non-selective school in Kingston at Key Stage 3. At GCSE, 73% of pupils gained 5 or more GCSE's at grades A-C. Indeed, most achieved 10 or 11 passes. At 'A' Level, a 96% pass rate was achieved in August 2004.

Value added tables published by the Government in January 2003 show students at Richard Challoner make better progress from KS3 to GCSE than any other Kingston school (including selective and independent schools).
