The choice of schools that faces you must seem bewildering and the purpose of this website is to give you some brief ideas about Mellow Lane.
However comprehensive the website, we would not pretend that we begin to answer all the questions you want to ask. If you wish to know more, then please do not hesitate to write, or telephone, or simply call in. Many parents and children have thankfully taken up this offer in recent years. We have been able to talk about particular concerns, to talk about the school and, most usefully of all, to walk around the school to see it "at work" during a normal day.
In 1998 Mellow Lane celebrated 50 years of success and excellence as a comprehensive school. We are proud of our past record, and proud also to be the Head of such a forward looking school. Our philosophy demands high standards of personal behaviour, a high degree of tolerance and high standards of work. We treat all our students as individuals with unique strengths; we create an environment in which each girl and boy can flourish.
A cornerstone of our success is also the true sense of partnership which exists between parents, young people and the school. We aim to make the years of secondary education interesting, happy, worthwhile - even exciting! As a matter of course we offer a uniquely flexible curriculum designed to meet all needs and a commitment to excellence achieved through quality teaching and a system of individual student reviews.
Our great popularity has encouraged us to expand, and with that expansion has come new buildings and new facilities. These have transformed Mellow Lane, and brought about a great enhancement to the learning environment. One thing, however, has not, and will not change; that is our special character, our warm and open atmosphere, and our emphasis on achievement.
